Yoga, Jazz, Camping 2019!!!

Saturday 25 May - Saturday 1 June 2019

Please join us for our second Yoga, Jazz and Camping retreat here at La Scellerie. Jazz Sous Les Pommier is one of the world’s leading jazz festivals, and nearly twenty thousand people flock to Coutances for the week to take in the international talent in venues throughout the town, and on open air sound stages. The festival offers a range of ticketed and free gigs throughout the week.

In and around La Scellerie, the air hums with spring life, and there are miles and miles of spectacular sand dunes and beaches to explore. You can sit (meditate?) in the sun or gaze at the milky way, do some yoga and qigong then pop up the road to a jazz gig in Coutances! Bring your tent, find your spot in our orchard for the week. In the main house, there is the studio, dining room, kitchen, shower rooms and toilets.

Breakfast and a hearty lunch will be provided each day, catering for all dietary requirements. Dinner will be available upon request.

Yoga, qigong and meditation classes will be taught by Joo Teoh. Each day, there will be 2.5 hours of qigong, yoga and guided meditation practice. Joo has been teaching since 2007. In his classes, he blends the alignment-based approach of yoga with energetic practices of qigong to calm the mind, strengthen the body and clear the heart.

This special retreat is only open to 8 participants. PRICE 480.00 euros per person for the full week, which will cover all yoga, qigong and meditation classes, meals, and facilities. Your travel to La Scellerie and tickets to concerts are not included. Email Joo at to book.

Yoga, Qigong and Meditation classes

The yoga, qigong and meditation classes are suitable for all levels of experience – from total beginners to those with years of regular practice. Yoga and qigong (sometimes known as chi-kung) are both ancient forms of energy cultivation, physical movement and breathing exercises for better health.  These practices date back thousands of years, and are still useful and relevant in life today. In every class, there will be the option to “turn the volume up” to whatever level your body wants. Some classes will be more active, some classes will be quieter and slower.

The meditation practices are mindfulness-based practices, which are non-dogmatic and non-religious. Mindfulness-based meditation aims to train the mind to focus and concentrate.

It is important to know that you are free to participate as much or as little as you wish. As the week progresses, you may find that you prefer to take more rest time or personal time, and I actively encourage you to explore this experience of doing less. In our busy lives, this is one of the most advanced expressions of self-care.
